Mechanical Engineer – Hydro & Dams

About the role

WSP is looking for a Mechanical Engineer specialized in hydro‑electric and dam projects to join its multidisciplinary team. You will support the design, analysis, and implementation of mechanical systems across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies to commissioning and operation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse mechanical components for hydro‑electric plants, dams, pumping stations and water‑conveyance infrastructure.
• Specify and size turbines, gates, penstocks, valves, hoists, cooling systems, piping networks and auxiliary hydraulic equipment.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, equipment data sheets, reports and design documentation.
• Conduct assessments of existing infrastructure and support rehabilitation, modernization and upgrade projects.
• Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers and contractors; review vendor documentation, shop drawings and submittals.
• Participate in design reviews, constructability studies and value‑engineering initiatives.
• Support commissioning, startup testing and performance evaluation of mechanical systems.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations and client requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
• Professional Engineer designation or eligibility is a plus.
• 6–9 years of experience in mechanical engineering for hydro‑electric, dam or major water‑resources projects.
• Advanced proficiency in English and French.
