Patent Attorney

About the role

Essity is seeking a Patent Attorney to join its global Intellectual Property function, supporting the Personal Care business. You will work closely with R&D, innovation, technology and commercial teams to protect and develop inventions that improve people’s lives.

Key responsibilities

• Strategically manage and develop parts of Essity’s global patent portfolio aligned with business priorities.
• Collaborate with R&D, product development and marketing to identify and protect valuable inventions.
• Conduct Freedom‑to‑Operate analyses to enable secure product launches.
• Draft, file and prosecute patent applications in cooperation with external counsel.
• Provide expert IP support in patent disputes and litigation matters.
• Monitor competitor patent activity and contribute to competitive intelligence.
• Help improve processes within the global IP function.

Required profile

• Qualified Patent Agent, Patent Attorney, Intellectual Property Lawyer or European Patent Attorney.
• Technical background in mechanics, physics, chemistry or a comparable field.
• At least five years of experience working with patents in an international environment.
• Strong expertise in patent drafting, prosecution and freedom‑to‑operate assessments.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships across cultures.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
