Platform Engineer - AI-Native Engineering Team

About the role

Open English, a global EdTech platform with over 3 million students, is building a clean-sheet, agentic-first engineering platform alongside its CTO. The Platform Engineer designs and owns the development architecture, tools, frameworks, CI/CD machinery and developer experience, with no direct reports. The role is permanent and has an innovation mandate: evaluate new models, agents and frameworks, pilot the useful ones and retire the rest.

Key responsibilities

• Own the toolchain: select and evolve tools, frameworks, agentic environments (Claude Code, Cursor, custom agents) and model routing strategies.
• Build the "golden path": project scaffolding, shared configurations, reusable skills and templates.
• Architect agentic CI/CD pipelines, ephemeral preview environments and infrastructure as code on AWS, taking merged branches to production with minimal manual steps.
• Design a shared team memory layer, automated generation and self-review loops, and a library of agent skills, evaluation suites and review prompts.
• Own end-to-end testing, including automated regression suites and production-readiness checks.
• Measure developer experience (lead time, agent performance, token economics, flaky tests) and use the data to drive improvements.
• Onboard engineers, document the golden path and evangelize new capabilities.
• Integrate security by design (permissions, sandboxing, secrets management, supply-chain scanning) and protect student data under LGPD and GDPR.
• Define SLOs, alerting and incident response, take part in an on-call rotation, and track AWS and AI-model spend.

Required profile

• Proven platform engineering, developer experience or DevOps experience in lean, high-velocity teams, ideally building infrastructure from scratch.
• Active, opinionated practitioner of AI-assisted development, having built agentic workflows, custom skills and multi-agent systems with tools like Claude Code and Cursor.
• Fluent English; professional Spanish strongly preferred.
• High ownership, self-directed, and comfortable working with a goal and a blank canvas.
