Power Generation Senior Engineer I

About the role

The SYSS Engineering Group in Latin America provides fully engineered control system solutions for power and process plants in the Americas, installing and replacing plant control systems with Emerson DCS (Delta V and Ovation) and reliability and SCADA solutions. The engineer supports regional offices such as Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and the US, working on projects with minimal direction and taking part in technical leads and commissioning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Design non-complex solutions, implement hardware databases, logic, graphics and datalinks, and select hardware and software with guidance
• Review application documentation for quality, accuracy and completeness, and work with project technical leaders and partners to meet requirements and deadlines
• Execute projects within quality, delivery date and budget, and communicate accurately with customers
• Lead product enhancement and solution definitions for innovative projects, and carry out FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, loop tuning, turbine startups, advanced controls and performance solutions
• Lead implementation teams across plant processes (O&G, chemical, mining power, etc.), supervise subcontractors and remote engineering teams of 25-30 engineers, and act as site manager for teams of 10+ engineers
• Develop functional design (hardware and software), including reverse engineering in retrofit projects, and prepare implementation and commissioning plans
• Validate execution strategy, estimate effort, assess risks, track progress and budget, and issue weekly reports
• Mentor partners, contribute to technical documentation, and take part in continuous improvement and innovation

Required profile

• Engineering degree in a related field
• 10+ years of experience in DCS or PLC/SCADA in industrial automation
• At least 6 technical lead roles on medium-size projects (over 2,000 I/O points)
• 8+ years of power industry experience, with demonstrated expertise in gas and steam turbine startup, commissioning and performance testing
• Travel time of up to 60%
• Intermediate English; Portuguese is a plus
