Project Engineer - Structural Design

About the role

DeSimone Consulting Engineering, a global structural engineering firm, is looking for a Project Engineer in Medellin, Colombia. The engineer plays a key role in the structural design process, supporting projects from concept through construction, with hands-on experience in design and analysis tools, coordination with multidisciplinary teams and exposure to project management fundamentals.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural design and analysis using tools such as Revit, Rhino, ETABS and SAP.
• Assist in preparing drawings, calculations and documentation for design deliverables.
• Coordinate with architects, clients and other design team members to ensure design alignment.
• Conduct field observations and inspections under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Maintain accurate records of design decisions, calculations and project documentation.
• Contribute to project planning and scheduling discussions with Project Managers.
• Apply knowledge of structural codes, standards and materials to design solutions.
• Support quality assurance by reviewing drawings and checking design accuracy.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or a related field, with five years of experience designing and analysing mid- to high-rise buildings with software such as ETABS, RAM, RISA and SAFE; or a Master's degree with three years of similar experience.
• Three years of experience analysing building structures with computer modelling and preparing structural calculations.
• Preferred: Master's degree, EIT certification or PE license, and experience with Grasshopper.

Required skills

• Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
• Knowledge of standard construction practices and ability to work with contractors.
• Proficiency in Revit and structural analysis software such as ETABS and SAP.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and organisation, and excellent written and verbal communication.
