RN Charge Nurse

About the role

The Charge Nurse (RN) leads the daily nursing operations within a long‑term care facility, ensuring that patient care meets all federal, state and local standards. Reporting to the Director or Assistant Director of Nursing, the role balances supervisory duties with policy oversight and quality assurance.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise day‑to‑day nursing activities and ensure compliance with current regulations.
• Assist the Director of Nursing in directing nursing functions and updating policies and procedures.
• Maintain current reference materials (e.g., PDRs, regulations) at nursing stations.
• Ensure all nursing staff follow the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
• Prepare written and oral reports for the Director regarding department operations.
• Participate in quality‑assurance programs and facility inspections.
• Review and update resident discharge plans and coordinate nursing services with other resident services.
• Lead staff meetings to plan departmental services, programs, and activities.

Required profile

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state and local nursing regulations.
• Experience supervising nursing staff in a long‑term care setting.
• Ability to develop, maintain and revise policies, procedures and job descriptions.
• Effective communication skills for reporting to senior nursing leadership.
