Senior Android Engineer (Embedded Device)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Android Engineer to lead the Android experience on a custom ARM‑based embedded device. The role covers everything from low‑level hardware integration to the companion mobile app, delivering an offline‑first, modular system with encrypted per‑profile storage.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own the Android architecture for purpose‑built hardware.
• Integrate onboard cameras, sensors, lighting and physical controls as primary navigation inputs.
• Develop shared abstraction layers used by the rest of the application.
• Implement connectivity features such as Bluetooth audio, Wi‑Fi sync, OTA updates and companion‑app communication.
• Collaborate with designers, product owners and hardware/firmware teams to translate requirements into robust implementations.
• Work independently across device and companion‑app codebases while maintaining high code quality.

Required profile

• Senior‑level Android engineer with proven experience on real devices or embedded hardware.
• Comfortable working close to the metal and handling ambiguous requirements.
• Self‑motivated, able to operate remotely within US Central Time business hours.

Required skills

• Android development using Java or Kotlin.
• Embedded Android on ARM platforms.
• Hardware integration (cameras, sensors, custom controls).
• Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, OTA update mechanisms.
• Version control with Git.

What we offer

• Compensation of $5,000 USD per month.
