Senior Associate, Strategic Finance & Controllership

About the role

A boutique finance firm that runs the finance function for fast-growing companies under a flat monthly fee is expanding its controllership team. As Senior Associate, you will be the right hand to the Finance Lead, owning the models, close and reporting that clients rely on, and working directly with founders, CEOs and COOs on budgets, fundraising, pricing and cash. You will support several client engagements at once, reporting to the Finance Lead alongside the accounting and tax teams.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain each client's financial model, prepare budgets and rolling forecasts, run scenario analysis and deliver monthly variance analysis.
• Set up KPI frameworks tied to client OKRs, turn operating data into financial insight, draft board materials and support fundraising with models, investor materials and diligence data rooms.
• Run or review month-end and year-end close, produce GAAP statements, track cash, working capital and AR/AP aging, and prepare schedules for external auditors.
• Onboard new clients, redesign close, billing, AR/AP and expense workflows, automate recurring work with integrations and AI tools, set up internal controls and policies, and turn successful practices into templates and playbooks.

Required profile

• 3 to 6 years in FP&A, corporate finance, accounting advisory, investment banking or a startup finance team.
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field.
• Nice to have: CPA or CFA, experience at a client-facing firm, fundraising experience, experience setting up finance systems, familiarity with service businesses, and Spanish or another second language.

Required skills

• Strong three-statement modeling and solid GAAP knowledge, including accruals, revenue recognition and month-end close.
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets.
• Clear writing and speaking, able to explain variances and forecasts to non-finance leaders.
• Ability to handle several clients and deadlines at once.
