Senior DBA - PostgreSQL & AWS RDS

About the role

Sutherland is hiring a Senior DBA to deploy, operate and maintain NICE's global customer-hosted databases, resolve customer issues requiring direct access to the database infrastructure and act in a professional manner. The engineer reports to the Manager, Infrastructure Cloud Operations and works as part of the Database Team managing databases in the AWS Cloud. The position is remote in Colombia for candidates who can legally work there.

Key responsibilities

• AWS console administration and new deployments of databases and RDS services
• RDS health and availability checks using CloudWatch and Performance Insights, and analysis of database error logs
• Configure alerts, monitor them and tune thresholds; export/import Postgres data or backup/restore SQL Server data
• Install and configure databases, backups, maintenance jobs and other features supporting capacity, performance and functionality
• Handle restores, patchsets, upgrades and downgrades, and troubleshoot locking and corruption issues with minimal downtime
• Run backups, check application server health and service recycling, and resolve issues such as batch failures, network problems and client data feed errors
• Monitor server performance, memory, CPU, file systems, databases and batch jobs, and investigate performance issues with tuning solutions
• Prepare, review, test and run T-SQL and PowerShell scripts, and write documentation as part of a global team
• Provide 24x7 support for production SaaS infrastructure, including on-call and weekend shifts

Required profile

• 6 to 10 years of experience as a DBA managing multiple database engines, with at least 6 years of relevant experience
• Hands-on experience with multiple versions of PostgreSQL is mandatory
• Knowledge or experience with Microsoft SQL, Aurora or MySQL is an advantage
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or information technology
• Ability to work cooperatively in a global, multicultural environment

Required skills

• Hands-on AWS Cloud and AWS RDS experience
• Basic coding in PowerShell, Python and Terraform
• Understanding of automated AWS backups, historical backup times and ad-hoc snapshots
• ITIL knowledge of incidents, service requests and change management
