Software Engineer Specialist

About the role

ScotiaTech, the technology hub of Scotiabank in Bogota, is looking for an experienced Software Engineer Specialist to support its Commodities Technology team. The role focuses on maintaining and upgrading legacy software components that are approaching end‑of‑life, ensuring system stability, compliance, and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with peer engineers and GBME teams to maintain and upgrade legacy software components.
• Collaborate with system owners to gather end‑of‑life requirements, conduct gap analysis, and define remediation plans.
• Identify and remediate code and library vulnerabilities.
• Produce detailed specifications, write production‑quality code, and implement enhancements.
• Design and automate functional, non‑functional, regression, and performance test sets.
• Refactor legacy code as needed and participate in daily stand‑ups.

Required profile

• Results‑oriented and curious mindset with strong ownership for system stability.
• Hands‑on development experience and ability to work closely with infrastructure, security, database, and application teams.
• Excellent communication skills to convey technical requirements to business analysts and technology partners.

Required skills

• OOP programming with Java and Enterprise Edition Java (Servlets, JDBC, EJB, JSP, JMS).
• Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Scala (plus).
• Web services experience (Tomcat or WebLogic).
• Unix/Shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python).
• Message‑oriented middleware (JMS, Kafka, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ).
• Database development with Oracle, Sybase, PL/SQL.
• Experience with Oracle and Linux platforms and DevOps practices.
