Squad Lead - Database Operations

About the role

Kyndryl is looking for a Squad Leader for Database Operations to lead a team of database engineers who deliver state-of-the-art database management solutions. The role goes beyond traditional leadership: you act as the go-to expert in your technology and service domain, guiding, motivating and mentoring your squad to deliver business-critical 24x7 database platforms with high availability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and mentor a team of technical professionals, fostering collaboration and guiding their career development.
• Oversee 24x7 database operations and ensure strict compliance with Service Level Agreements, monitoring KPIs such as availability, incident backlog, capacity, performance and recurring incidents.
• Drive ITIL-aligned service management processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Request and Capacity Management).
• Run Agile ceremonies, manage operational backlogs, optimise workflows and priorities, and drive continuous improvement.
• Act as the primary escalation point for technical incidents, engaging customers and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Maintain end-to-end ownership of the database environment and turn business requirements into scalable infrastructure solutions.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and mentor a team of database professionals and engineers.
• Proven track record operating and supporting business-critical 24x7 database services under strict uptime requirements.
• Growth mindset, customer focus and openness to diverse, cross-functional teams.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Technology or a related field; preferred certifications include ITIL v3/v4, CSM, PMP, Six Sigma or vendor certifications (Oracle, Microsoft, AWS, IBM).

Required skills

• Hands-on expertise across Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL / AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and IBM Db2.
• Deep experience implementing and managing ITIL processes and defining operational metrics.
• Ability to analyse complex technical challenges and align database strategy with corporate goals.
