Structural Engineer

About the role

Atoms is looking for a Structural Engineer to join its vertically integrated engineering team. The role focuses on adaptive‑reuse and renovation projects, assessing existing building behavior and delivering cost‑effective structural solutions that enable new facility requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural due‑diligence assessments on existing buildings, evaluating gravity load systems, lateral force‑resisting systems, foundations, and identifying deficiencies.
• Identify compromised structural elements such as corrosion, material degradation, settlement, overstressed members, and inadequate historic modifications.
• Develop structural strategies for integrating new equipment, loads, and occupancy requirements into existing structures.
• Determine strengthening needs for gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and equipment support structures.
• Design foundation concepts and structural solutions for both new and existing facilities.
• Analyze building load paths and pinpoint critical elements that affect project feasibility and cost.
• Coordinate with architecture, mechanical, plumbing, civil, geotechnical, construction, and development teams to ensure safe, constructible, and economical designs.

Required profile

• Background in structural engineering with experience in building assessment and renovation projects.
• Ability to quickly understand existing structural behavior and develop practical solutions.
