Structural Steel Detailer - Medellin

About the role

The Structural Steel Detailer supports the technical execution of structural steel detailing projects by developing accurate 3D models, fabrication drawings, erection drawings and project material information using SDS2. Working within the Project Execution team, the role collaborates with modelers, checkers, project engineers and project management to keep project information accurate and to coordinate detailing issues. It also supports erection drawing development and material take-offs as workload allows.

Key responsibilities

• Generate and edit fabrication shop drawings for steel fabricators, and create and update erection drawings for field assembly.
• Review structural and architectural drawings, specifications and contract documents, and keep them consistent with detailing deliverables.
• Incorporate approval comments, contract changes, RFI responses and checking feedback into drawings.
• Prepare material take-offs and project lists, including shop and field bolt information, mill orders, CNC files, KSS files and Tekla PowerFab files.
• Perform self-reviews of drawings and outputs, and follow JITECH detailing standards and quality requirements.

Required profile

• Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering Technology, Drafting, Construction or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in structural steel detailing, steel fabrication drafting or a related structural steel role.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Excellent written and spoken English; strong attention to detail, organization and time management.

Required skills

• SDS2 or Tekla for structural steel modeling and fabrication drawings.
• Working knowledge of AISC Steel Construction Manual and familiarity with ANSI/AISC 360-22, AWS D1.1:2020, AWS welding practices and International Building Code is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Planner and Bluebeam.
