Substation Engineer – Electrical Design & Protection

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Substation Engineer to join our Bogotá office and support U.S. utility infrastructure projects. The role focuses on designing and implementing protection and control systems for substations across distribution and transmission voltage levels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop electric substation design drawings, including single‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel layouts, and control building layouts.
• Prepare and review protection and control design packages for utility substation projects.
• Perform engineering calculations such as battery sizing, AC station service sizing, voltage drop, and conduit fill.
• Apply relay protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
• Develop technical equipment and construction specifications and engineering work scopes.
• Support SCADA integration through coordination with engineering and client teams.
• Review designs for technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with U.S. utility standards and codes.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, telecommunications, project management).
• Assist construction activities, field investigations, and issue resolution during execution.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives and standards development.

Required profile

• 5+ years of substation engineering experience, primarily in protection and control.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience developing protection and control drawings and construction deliverables for utility substations.
• Familiarity with U.S. utility standards, NESC, IEEE, and related codes.
