Traffic Engineer-in-Training

About the role

Help shape safer, more efficient, and more sustainable transportation networks. As a Traffic Engineer-in-Training you will contribute to projects that improve mobility, support growing communities, and enhance daily travel experiences while building technical expertise alongside experienced professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Support transportation and traffic engineering studies through data collection, analysis, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Analyze traffic operations using industry‑standard software such as Synchro and SimTraffic.
• Prepare traffic forecasts, trip generation analyses, and transportation impact assessments.
• Develop technical reports, memoranda, graphics, and presentation materials to communicate findings.
• Contribute to site‑plan reviews, access evaluations, parking assessments, and vehicle circulation analyses.
• Participate in field investigations, traffic counts, parking studies, and site inspections.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technical specialists to deliver high‑quality transportation solutions.
• Uphold WSP’s commitment to health, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with an interest in transportation or traffic engineering.
• Registered, or eligible to register, as an Engineer‑in‑Training with the applicable provincial engineering association.
• Up to four years of experience in transportation engineering, municipal infrastructure, land development, or a related field.
• Understanding of transportation planning, traffic engineering principles, road safety, and multimodal transportation systems.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and present technical transportation data accurately.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to prepare concise technical documentation.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to participate in field work and site investigations.
