AWS IoT Back-End Engineer

About the role

The company runs an IoT platform that monitors and manages industrial waste compactors deployed at customer sites. Each compactor has a connected hardware board sending operational data to the cloud, where AWS services collect and process it, monitor device status, support dashboards and trigger actions on remote devices. This role reworks and configures the AWS IoT Core infrastructure and related services.

Key responsibilities

• Rework and configure the existing AWS IoT Core infrastructure for new hardware and firmware.
• Configure and manage MQTT communication between devices and AWS.
• Build monitoring capabilities and dashboards for device connectivity, health and status.
• Enable secure remote actions on devices, including OTA firmware updates, device restarts and remote commands and configuration.
• Review and improve device provisioning, authentication, certificates, policies and security.
• Migrate workloads reaching end-of-life, including moving services from AWS App Runner to ECS.
• Support and improve infrastructure, deployment pipelines, monitoring, logging and alerting.
• Migrate the current email infrastructure from AWS to Microsoft Azure while keeping existing AWS applications and automated email workflows running.
• Work with the engineering team to understand the current architecture and safely execute infrastructure changes.

Required profile

• 4+ years in backend, integration or solutions engineering.
• Solid PostgreSQL experience: schema design, migrations and query tuning; EF Core is a plus.
• Hands-on AWS experience in production (S3, IAM, Secrets Manager, App Runner or ECS, CloudWatch).
• Ability to read and change Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, and writing unit and integration tests.
• Strong written and spoken English, able to run a technical call with a vendor and document the agreement.
• Customer-minded, ownership-driven approach, following a problem from report to fix.

Nice to have

• IoT device fleets, telemetry or OTA update systems (MCUboot, firmware signing, rollback and rollout).
• Python (FastAPI, boto3, pytest) and AWS CDK in Python.
• AWS Lambda and Step Functions, or ML pipelines.
• Observability: alarms, dashboards, structured logging.
• Next.js / React for small internal tools.
• Security-minded engineering: least-privilege IAM, secrets handling, input validation.
