Cargo Claims Specialist

About the role

AJC Logistics is hiring a Cargo Claims Specialist in Medellin. The specialist manages the full lifecycle of cargo loss and damage claims, from intake through settlement, across several business lines. They act as the primary contact for assigned files, communicate professionally and promptly, and drive accurate, data-backed resolutions.

Key responsibilities

• Intake, triage, investigate and resolve claims from notice through closure, handling them independently within delegated authority and escalating complex items.
• Review shipping documents, contracts and correspondence to determine liability and prepare notices and letters while tracking contractual and statutory timelines.
• Oversee salvage where applicable: secure bids, document condition, coordinate release and disposal, and reconcile proceeds.
• Support claims recovery and subrogation in line with carrier contracts and insurance policies, escalating to senior team members or Legal when needed.
• Act as main contact for customers and carriers, coordinating with Sales, Operations and Legal to move files toward resolution.
• Apply knowledge of insurance coverage and terms and conditions, and lead weekly reporting to management on assigned business lines.
• Produce ad-hoc reports and dashboards on trends, root causes and recovery opportunities, and recommend process improvements.

Required profile

• 1-3 years of experience in logistics, claims, insurance, customer service or a related field; cargo claims experience is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Fluent English, written and spoken, with strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Organized, detail-oriented, able to handle multiple claims at once with a strong sense of urgency.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Excel and comfort with data reporting and analysis.
• Familiarity with TMS and claims systems.
• Basic knowledge of accounting principles and reconciliation of salvage proceeds.
• Preferred: experience with U.S.-based logistics practices and carrier contracts, and Spanish proficiency.
