Design Systems Engineer – Remote

About the role

Blacksmith Agency builds websites and marketing programs for US clients. As a Design Systems Engineer you will own the creation of client design systems, turning brand guidelines into reusable token architecture and component libraries that can be executed automatically.

Key responsibilities

• Build token architecture in Figma using variables, modes, and semantic naming that our pipeline can read predictably.
• Ship core component libraries that hold up across entire sites, not just homepages.
• Document the system so developers or automated pipelines can execute it without questions.
• Work across several client brands simultaneously, maintaining structural rigor while each brand looks distinct.

Required profile

• 4+ years designing for the web with real design‑system work in your portfolio.
• Fluency in Figma variables, component properties, auto‑layout, and variants – actual architecture, not just tidy files.
• A portfolio showing varied client work while maintaining the same underlying rigor.
• Strong English skills and ability to overlap with US business hours.
