Director, AI & Data Governance - Data Stewardship & Governance Enablement

About the role

Mastercard's Enterprise Data Governance team is looking for a Director, AI & Data Governance to enable data governance across the enterprise through a federated stewardship model. The role leads data stewardship within selected business teams and data domains, helps refine the Enterprise Data Governance framework and gives strategic input to ensure adherence to data governance policies and standards. It reports to a Director, AI & Data Governance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and facilitate data stewardship networks, giving guidance, coaching and escalation support while building a culture of collaboration and accountability.
• Support stewardship teams by writing and maintaining business glossary terms, critical data elements, classification and transformation logic in the data catalog, and translating technical logic into plain language.
• Drive awareness and adoption of data and AI management practices through training, communications and forums that improve data literacy.
• Build and maintain stewardship onboarding, playbooks, procedures and tooling so domains can govern consistently and independently.
• Contribute to implementing and continuously improving the data governance framework, including policies, standards, specifications and procedures.
• Help refine the governance adherence program, which turns policies and standards into readiness and maturity criteria, monitoring and remediation practices.
• Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders on data governance and stewardship, and contribute to internal thought leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field; CDMP or similar certification is a plus.
• Proven track record of operationalizing data stewardship, including setting up stewardship roles, onboarding stewards and embedding governance into business processes.
• Self-starter able to move between strategy and hands-on execution and deliver measurable results under tight deadlines.
• Ability to influence without direct authority and build relationships with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
• CEFR English C1 (Advanced) or equivalent.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of data governance principles and frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK.
• Strong understanding of metadata management: business and technical metadata, glossaries, critical data elements, classification and lineage; data catalog platform experience is a plus.
• Experience with governance maturity or adherence assessments and with building stewardship roadmaps.
