Lead Fullstack Engineer

About the role

Monks is looking for a Lead Fullstack Engineer to set the technical bar for client‑facing web applications. You will own architecture decisions across the entire stack, establish patterns, and stay hands‑on while guiding a delivery team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own end‑to‑end architecture for frontend (React/Next.js) and backend (Node/TypeScript) services.
• Define and enforce coding standards, patterns, and guardrails for the team.
• Review and gate all work, including AI‑generated code, to ensure quality and consistency.
• Break down ambiguous problems into clear, executable workstreams.
• Partner with clients and product managers to shape scope and technical trade‑offs.
• Mentor engineers, fostering growth and capability within the team.

Required profile

• Hands‑on leader who builds alongside the team.
• Opinionated yet pragmatic with strong views on patterns and trade‑offs.
• Product‑mindset, linking technical decisions to real user value.
• Clear communicator able to align clients, product, and engineering.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in React and Next.js.
• Strong TypeScript skills across frontend and backend.
• Node.js development experience.
• System design on AWS, including API design and data modeling.
• PostgreSQL proficiency.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Codex.
