Principal Engineer – Telecommunications (Data Centers)

About the role

AECOM Enterprise Capabilities is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the design of telecommunications and structured cabling solutions for data centers and commercial facilities in Bogota.

Key responsibilities

• Design structured cabling systems (copper and fiber) for data centers and commercial facilities.
• Define cable pathways, containment, and redundant entry paths to support multiple service providers.
• Specify rack elevations, ODFs, patch panels, and other passive components.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards and regulations.
• Develop detailed drawings, technical specifications and bills of quantities.
• Coordinate closely with architecture, structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, security and operations teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 6 years of experience (10 + years preferred) in ICT infrastructure design.
• Intermediate proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Current BICSI RCDD certification or equivalent BICSI credential.
• Strong knowledge of permitting, IEEE C2, OSHA 1910, TIA cabling and data‑center standards.

Required skills

• Structured cabling design (copper & fiber).
• Revit, AutoCAD, Visio Professional, Bluebeam Revu.
• Microsoft Project and Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Application of BICSI, TIA, IEEE and OSHA standards.
