Principal Engineer - Telecommunications, Data Centers

About the role

AECOM Enterprise Capabilities is looking for an ICT Designer who works alongside architects, engineers and interior designers to develop integrated ICT solutions for clients, using standardized Structured Cabling Systems (SCS) best practices. The role covers data centers and commercial facilities, within a team of expert consultants.

Key responsibilities

• Design structured cabling systems, copper and fiber, and define cable pathways, containment and spaces for multiple service providers and redundant entry paths.
• Specify rack elevations including ODFs, patch panels and other passive components, ensuring compliance with codes, standards and regulations.
• Develop drawings, technical specifications and bills of quantities.
• Coordinate with architecture, structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, security and operations teams, and integrate security systems, building automation, energy and power management, audiovisual and other IP-based technologies.
• Carry out survey, design, development and construction administration of ICT infrastructure projects, gather and correlate engineering data, and work within the agreed budget and schedule under supervision.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university plus 6 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience and/or education.
• Intermediate level of written and spoken English; fluency preferred.
• Ability to work independently, communicate confidently and articulate, and balance design quality with efficiency.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ICT infrastructure types and uses.
• Preferred: 10+ years of ICT infrastructure design experience.
• Preferred: Revit, AutoCAD, Visio Professional, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Project, Microsoft 365 suite, and codes such as IEEE C2, OSHA 1910, TIA cabling and data center standards, BICSI TDMM.
• Preferred: current BICSI RCDD certification or another active BICSI certification.
