Principal Software Quality Assurance Engineer

About the role

The client, a global SaaS provider of field service management software, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Test to own product quality. This senior individual contributor will define test strategy, build automation architecture, and create AI agents that generate and execute tests, ensuring releases are safe to ship.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain the test strategy, release health gates, and evidence required for shipping.
• Design and operate the automation architecture across web, mobile, and API layers, including test data, environments, flake budgets, and CI integration.
• Build, deploy, and evaluate AI testing agents that derive test cases from tickets, code changes, and real customer workflows.
• Establish engineering practices for developers, including test standards, static checks, and review rules.
• Provide clear quality signals (defect rate, escape rate) to engineering and executive leadership.

Required profile

• Production‑quality code author, hireable as a senior software engineer.
• Deep experience designing test automation for large, long‑lived web applications.
• Hands‑on experience with LLM‑based agents, tool integration, and evaluation harnesses.
• Strong SQL and relational data expertise for complex test data creation.
• Ability to influence engineers, product managers, and executives on quality decisions.

Required skills

• Playwright (or equivalent modern browser automation) and API‑level testing.
• Cypress, Jest, Maestro, Bruno.
• PHP, Symfony, Angular, Ionic/Capacitor.
• PostgreSQL, AWS.
• CI/CD tools: Jenkins, Bitbucket, Terraform.
• Observability: Datadog, Grafana.
