Senior Backend Engineer - Payments (Go, Node, TypeScript)

About the role

This role builds and evolves payment services end to end, using Go for new services and Node.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL to maintain and improve existing systems. It covers payment gateway integrations, transaction workflows, production reliability and technical leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement payment gateway integrations covering authorization, capture, cancellation and refunds.
• Build reliable transaction workflows handling retries, timeouts, idempotency, concurrency and partial failures.
• Drive solutions from discovery to production, translating business requirements into maintainable designs and owning the outcome.
• Help migrate from legacy systems to a scalable, modular architecture while keeping existing customer operations running.
• Ensure production reliability and observability through monitoring, logs, tracing, automated testing and incident analysis.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, architectural decisions and testing strategies.
• Collaborate with Product and other engineering teams, and mentor teammates and share knowledge.
• Contribute to deployment and operations using AWS, Docker, Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.

Required profile

• Strong hands-on experience building production services in Go, with APIs, concurrency and well-tested code.
• Experience evolving backend systems in Node.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL, including query optimization and transactional integrity.
• Distributed systems and microservices experience, including asynchronous communication and failure handling.
• Software architecture: clean architecture, domain-driven design and pragmatic legacy modernization.
• Reliability engineering: idempotency, timeouts, observability and incident troubleshooting.
• Automated testing: unit, integration and contract testing.
• Cloud and infrastructure as code: AWS, Docker, Terraform and CI/CD.
• Technical leadership: mentoring, code reviews and influencing decisions.
• Payment systems or transactional domains experience; direct payment experience is a strong plus.
• AI-assisted development as part of daily workflow.
• Security in payment systems: PCI-DSS scope, tokenization, webhook authentication and handling of sensitive data.
