Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (Remote, Colombia)

About the role

A remote Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is sought to help build, scale and evolve a multi-tenant SaaS hosting platform on AWS. The platform dynamically provisions, manages and scales hundreds of Moodle LMS instances for education clients, using custom orchestration tooling, distributed service discovery and infrastructure as code. It is not containerised, so deep Linux knowledge and first-principles reasoning about distributed systems are required.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain AWS infrastructure with Terraform (EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda, ALB, ElastiCache, Route 53, VPC)
• Write and maintain Puppet modules to configure fleets of EC2 instances across auto-scaling groups
• Maintain and extend Python automation and tooling for platform operations
• Manage and tune a multi-tier caching strategy (Varnish, Redis/Valkey, PHP OPcache)
• Run and scale the observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Fluentd, PagerDuty) and take part in on-call rotations
• Evaluate distributed storage solutions, improve deployment workflows and release processes
• Work with internal teams on API contracts, integrations and operational tooling, and take part in incident response and root cause analysis

Required profile

• Strong production experience with AWS services, especially EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda, ALB, ElastiCache, Route 53, IAM and VPC
• Deep Linux knowledge (Ubuntu), including Apache/Nginx, PHP-FPM, Varnish, systemd, filesystems and networking
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts such as consensus, leader election, distributed locking and eventual consistency
• Ability to document architectural decisions and explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Preferred: Ceph, GlusterFS, JuiceFS, CubeFS, AWS EFS; etcd, Consul or ZooKeeper; Varnish and VCL; PHP; secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager, Vault, Parameter Store); zero-downtime deployments for VMs
