Senior Communications & External Affairs Officer

About the role

The Senior Communications & External Affairs Officer will support the World Bank Group’s mission to foster development across Latin America and the Caribbean. Based in Bogota, the incumbent will work closely with regional teams to shape and deliver strategic communications that enhance the Bank’s reputation and influence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communication strategies for external affairs, media relations, and stakeholder engagement.
• Lead the production of high‑impact content, including press releases, speeches, briefing notes, and digital materials.
• Coordinate with regional and technical units to ensure consistent messaging across projects and initiatives.
• Manage reputation risk by monitoring public perception and advising senior leadership on communication responses.
• Facilitate partnerships with civil society, foundations, private sector, donor countries, and international organizations.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in communications, journalism, public policy, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in communications, external affairs, or public relations, preferably in an international or development context.
• Proven ability to craft strategic messages for diverse audiences and media outlets.
• Strong analytical skills to assess reputation risks and communication impact.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
