Senior Organisational Development Practitioner
Canonical
Job description
About the role
Canonical is looking for a Senior Organisational Development Practitioner, one of its most senior and demanding Talent Development roles. You set the standard for coaching and organisational development, coach leaders to a clear standard of management excellence, diagnose how an organisation is led and drive the plan to improve it, and develop the practitioners working in the field. The position is remote, available across EMEA and the Americas, and involves working from the central team and embedded inside a leader's organisation for periods.
Key responsibilities
- Raise individual leaders by coaching them to a clear standard of management excellence, including the hard conversations needed to make change happen.
- Turn 360 feedback into real, followed-through commitments rather than a report that sits on a shelf.
- Leave each organisation you take on visibly better led, starting from a sharp first-weeks diagnosis and a plan you own and drive.
- Contribute to defining and implementing new ways of working across the globally distributed company.
- Build the function and its standards by developing practitioners in the field and sharpening the management-excellence standard across Canonical.
Required profile
- Deep, hands-on coaching and organisational-development practice with real leaders and teams, not just programme design.
- A track record of measurably changing how leaders behave, with specific examples you can discuss.
- Credibility: able to be taken seriously in a room of directors.
- Effectiveness operating inside another organisation without formal authority.
- A clear, honest philosophy of development, knowing where coaching helps and where a role or fit decision is the right call.
- An exceptional academic track record from high school and university, and excellent written and spoken English.
- Sincere personal motivation aligned with the company's mission and willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events.
Nice-to-have skills
- Management-consulting background.
- Experience coaching across a distributed, fast-moving, technical organisation.
- Experience building competency or development frameworks.
- Experience designing and running workshops or training sessions, in person and online.
- Talent-development experience, valued alongside but secondary to coaching and consulting craft.
What we offer
- Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person.
- Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year.
- Performance-driven annual bonus and annual compensation review.
- Annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, and Employee Assistance Programme.
- Priority Pass and travel upgrades for long-haul company events.
