Software Development Engineer II (Remote)

About the role

Join the OfferUp Connect team to build high‑volume Java microservices and event‑driven pipelines that power messaging, notifications, location, and subscription features for a leading local marketplace.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy backend services and streaming pipelines for messaging, notifications, location, and subscriptions.
• Improve reliability, latency, and delivery rates of high‑volume systems, including retries, rate limiting, and frequency capping.
• Integrate and operate third‑party platforms such as Braze, Amazon Pinpoint, Apple and Google push services, and app‑store billing.
• Own features end‑to‑end: plan, design, develop, deploy, measure, and iterate.
• Participate in code reviews, on‑call rotation, and create shared components to boost team velocity.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven ability to deliver multiple features end‑to‑end with high efficiency.
• Strong coding skills in Java and solid understanding of microservices and distributed‑system fundamentals.
• Experience with asynchronous, event‑driven systems (queues, pub/sub, streams) and idempotent processing.
• Comfortable giving and receiving feedback in code reviews and a bias toward shipping quickly.
