Staff Software Engineer, Product Workflow Reinvention

About the role

Nu is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead the newly created Product Workflow Reinvention team inside Global Products. This is a high-impact, 0-to-1 initiative working alongside the CPO structure to reshape how products are designed, specified and built, replacing the current human-centric approach with an AI-native workflow. The engineer owns the end-to-end technical architecture and builds the initial internal platforms that ship weekly improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the architecture of the orchestration layer: own the single system of record, its data models, work legibility and spec delivery to domain agents.
• Build AI-native platform primitives: workflows, state machines and event systems that product and platform teams consume.
• Make agents reliable and affordable through evaluation harnesses, integration patterns, context design and model selection.
• Ship first-generation internal tools covering research, requirements generation, technical discovery, design-to-code experimentation, self-serve customer data, service health and ops automation.
• Translate product vision and monthly milestones into architectural decisions, implementation roadmaps and sequencing in a greenfield environment.

Required profile

• Senior staff-level experience designing, building and operating complex backend or platform systems at scale.
• Proven ability to set technical direction, write design docs and RFCs, and establish primitives others build against.
• Experience leading ambiguous platform initiatives from early discovery to launch and rapid iteration.
• Experience building internal tools adopted by other product teams; bonus if you have also built a customer-facing product that became a platform.
• Strong written and verbal communication, able to turn strategic goals into clear plans and partner with senior executives.

Required skills

• Data modeling, workflow engines, state machines and event-driven architecture.
• Comfort combining APIs, open-source tools and AI models without over-engineering.
• Conviction around LLM agents, agentic systems or spec-driven development, with real examples of accelerating development workflows.
