Structural Engineer - Hydro & Dams

About the role

WSP is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer specialized in hydro‑electric and dam projects to lead design, analysis and rehabilitation activities across the full project lifecycle. The role combines technical leadership with hands‑on engineering work in a multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead structural design, analysis and assessment of dams, spillways, intake structures, powerhouses, penstocks and retaining structures.
• Perform advanced analyses of reinforced concrete, steel, composite and hydraulic structures under static, dynamic, seismic, hydraulic, thermal and environmental loads.
• Conduct dam safety assessments, risk evaluations and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, design criteria, technical specifications, reports and construction documentation.
• Coordinate with geotechnical, civil, hydrotechnical, electrical, mechanical and environmental specialists.
• Mentor junior engineers, review contractor submittals, shop drawings and construction methodologies.
• Support project planning, budgeting, scheduling and proposal preparation.
• Act as technical advisor to clients and communicate effectively in English and French.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred, Ph.D. an asset).
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or equivalent) designation preferred.
• More than 10 years of professional experience in structural engineering, specifically in hydro‑electric, dam and water‑resources projects.
• Advanced proficiency in English and French.
