Substation Physical Engineer

About the role

Pond & Company is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to support electric utility infrastructure projects across the United States while based in its Bogotá office. The role focuses on physical design and layout of high‑voltage substations, from distribution to transmission levels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop substation physical design drawings, including general arrangements, elevations, conduit plans, grounding and lightning protection plans, and control building layouts.
• Coordinate equipment layouts, raceway systems, and site infrastructure with civil and structural teams to ensure constructability.
• Perform engineering calculations such as grounding studies, lightning protection, conduit fill, and voltage drop analyses.
• Review design deliverables for accuracy, compliance with U.S. utility standards (IEEE, NESC), and constructability.
• Support field engineering, constructability reviews, and resolution of technical issues during construction.

Required profile

• 5+ years of substation engineering experience with a focus on physical design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
• Strong understanding of U.S. utility standards, electrical clearances, and high‑voltage substation layout requirements.
• Proficiency in English (B2 level or higher) and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
