Transport Officer

About the role

The Transport Officer will lead the Transport Unit of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC), based in Bogotá. Reporting to the Chief of Service Delivery Section, the incumbent will ensure safe, efficient, and compliant surface transport operations for the mission.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage and supervise surface motor‑transport support for UNVMC.
• Develop and implement the Vehicle Establishment Program, Acquisition, Maintenance and Recovery Plans in line with UN policies.
• Design and run road‑accident prevention and road‑safety programmes, including the Driving Test Programme and UN driving permits issuance.
• Prepare and manage the Transport Unit budget and oversee cost‑effective resupply and outsourcing arrangements.
• Develop, maintain and enforce Surface Transport Standard Operating Procedures.
• Supervise training activities to build capacity of international and national staff.
• Control vehicle inventory, conduct annual physical checks, and ensure quality control of goods and services.
• Coordinate procurement processes, evaluate technical bids, and monitor vendor performance with the Contracts Management Unit.
• Prepare performance reports and respond to internal and external audit observations.

Required profile

• Experience managing surface transport services in a complex, multinational environment.
• Ability to develop and implement transport policies, SOPs and safety programmes.
• Proven budget management and financial planning skills.
• Experience supervising training and capacity‑building activities.
• Knowledge of UN vehicle acquisition, maintenance and disposal procedures.
