Associate Director - Fire Detection & Alarm Systems (Data Centers)

About the role

AECOM's Enterprise Capabilities is looking for an experienced Associate Director - Fire Detection & Alarm Systems Technical Specialist (Data Centers) to join its Fire Detection Engineering team in Bogota, Colombia. The role is senior level and focuses on designing fire detection and alarm systems for data centers and mission-critical facilities, with a strong emphasis on scale, speed and consistency.

Key responsibilities

• Design fire detection and alarm systems for data centers, covering alarm, detection, monitoring and evacuation, prioritizing reliability, scalability and efficiency.
• Coordinate with HVAC, access control, fire protection and electrical systems so they integrate correctly.
• Analyze risks and classify occupancies to define the appropriate fire protection and technologies.
• Select equipment and size components, and prepare plant drawings, schematics, P&IDs and installation details.
• Model systems in Revit, review drawings, coordinate with other disciplines to avoid clashes, and review submittals and resolve comments from oversight authorities.
• Create design documentation and specifications, and communicate them to clients, architects, contractors and stakeholders.
• Supervise testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of the systems during installation.
• Incorporate energy-efficient strategies, renewable energy use and energy storage systems.

Required profile

• BSc. in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience and education, with 8+ years of professional experience focused on data center infrastructure.
• Extensive knowledge of data center tier standards (Uptime Institute, TIA-942, ANSI/BICSI 002).
• Knowledge of regulations such as NSR10, NFPA, FM, UL, NEMA and NEC.
• Experience reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings and RFIs.
• Advanced written and spoken English.
• Prior experience in data center design consultancy or large-scale data center projects is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Design tools and software from fire detection and alarm manufacturers.
• Revit for 3D BIM models (preferred)
• Navisworks (preferred)
• Integration of detection, suppression, control, climate control and building management systems (preferred)
• Manufacturer certifications, NFPA courses or a fire protection certification/diploma (preferred)
