Associate Director - Fire Engineering (Data Centers)

About the role

AECOM's Enterprise Capabilities is looking for an experienced bilingual Associate Director for its Fire Suppression Engineering team in Bogota, Colombia. The role is central to designing fire suppression systems, especially for data centers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead fire suppression design for data centers (clean agent, double-interlock preaction, water mist, wet/dry systems, fire pumps, tanks, hydrants, fire water distribution).
• Prepare basis-of-design, calculations, hydraulic network models, equipment sizing and detailed drawings and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, FM Global and applicable building codes, and interpret client standards and AHJ requirements.
• Define protection strategies for white space, electrical rooms, battery/UPS, generators, fuel systems and special hazard areas.
• Oversee QA/QC reviews, coordinate with architects, structural, electrical and mechanical teams, and integrate BIM models.
• Manage RFIs, submittals and technical clarifications during procurement and construction.
• Lead client engagements: requirements capture, technical presentations, design reviews, change management and stakeholder alignment.
• Standardize templates, details, calculation methods and design guides, and mentor team members.
• Plan scope, schedule and budgets, support proposals and estimates, and manage multi-site programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, Fire Protection or a related engineering discipline.
• 8+ years of fire suppression design experience, including 5+ years on mission-critical/data center projects.
• Proven team leadership and project delivery experience (scope, schedule, budget, risk).
• Bilingual Spanish and English, written and spoken.
• Preferred: Master's degree, Colombian or international licensure (e.g. NFPA CFPS, PE/FPE), and deep data center expertise.

Required skills

• NFPA and FM Global standards and local code application.
• Revit MEP and AutoCAD; hydraulic calculation tools.
• Advanced BIM coordination (Navisworks, ACC/Forma/Bluebeam) and model-based QA/QC.
• Commissioning/integrated testing leadership and turnover packages for hyperscale programs.
