breakmark · Colombia - Bogotá
Job description
About the role
We are seeking a Chief Operating Officer to lead the operational and risk functions of an independent alternative asset manager operating across Latin America with over US $250M in assets.
Key responsibilities
- Own and continuously refine the firm’s proprietary risk system, providing checks against founder‑led opportunistic decision‑making.
- Design and run a technology‑enabled, compliance‑forward operating engine, treating operational excellence as a competitive advantage.
- Support governance across shareholders, internal processes, and investment vehicles to meet institutional standards.
- Oversee finance and treasury functions including capital calls, distributions, fund‑level reporting, liquidity, and banking relationships.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with Colombian financial standards and cross‑border investor expectations.
- Partner with the Tech Leader to champion AI‑driven automation of investment and management processes.
- Act as the operational counterpart for institutional LPs during due diligence and ongoing reporting.
- Help scale a small, high‑trust team while maintaining a low‑turnover, informal culture.
Required profile
- 10+ years in operations, finance, or risk leadership within alternative asset management, private equity, real‑estate funds, or a regulated financial institution.
- Direct experience with institutional LP due diligence, pension funds, insurance companies, or similar allocators.
- Strong fund‑operations literacy: capital calls, waterfall structures, fund administration, cross‑border vehicle structuring.
- Proven track record building risk, compliance, or governance functions from the ground up.
- Comfort working cross‑border across Colombia, the US, Spain, and Central America.
- Genuine interest in technology and AI‑enabled operations.
What we offer
- Opportunity to build the operational backbone of a fast‑growing independent asset manager.
- A seat at the table with real voice and shared success.
- Performance‑based compensation rewarding risk management and creative problem‑solving.
- Collaboration with institutional investors such as pension funds and insurance companies.
- Technology‑enabled culture with AI agents supporting investment processes.
- Small, low‑turnover team (under 10% annual turnover) with a relaxed yet meticulous environment.
