Job description
About the role
Atoms is looking for a Commodity & Utility Associate to help optimize energy, utility and operational costs across its portfolio. The role spans energy procurement, utility management, infrastructure and automation, with a strong focus on using data to drive better decisions and build scalable processes. The position is based in the Bogotá office, where all office-based teams work onsite five days a week.
Key responsibilities
- Manage utilities and energy procurement: monitor market signals and pricing trends, support electricity and natural gas contract execution, validate commercial terms, benchmark rates, audit utility bills and track rebates and incentive programs.
- Drive OpEx optimization: analyze operational expenses to find leakage, discrepancies and savings, investigate root causes and work with cross-functional teams on corrective actions.
- Support power generation and smart infrastructure: evaluate solutions such as BESS, generators, fuel cells and microturbines for the EV/AV charging depot network, including vendor comparisons, technical assessments and ROI analysis.
- Build scalable workflows: automate recurring processes such as rate benchmarking, bill reconciliation, rebate tracking, leakage detection and reporting using scripting, dashboards and AI-assisted development tools.
- Manage vendors and commercial discussions: lead vendor outreach, compare technical and commercial proposals and support negotiations on pricing, contract terms, renewals and termination clauses.
- Provide actionable insights: maintain financial and operational trackers and turn complex data into clear recommendations for internal stakeholders and leadership.
Required profile
- Strong analytical skills, with experience working with large, multi-source datasets.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, with attention to detail and ownership.
- Clear written communication and confidence managing vendors and negotiating pricing and contract terms.
- Exposure to energy markets, utility billing, energy procurement or DER/BESS technologies is a plus, but not required.
Required skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience with Python, SQL or similar tools to analyze data and automate workflows.
- Comfort with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
- Plus: dashboards, APIs or data pipelines.
