Consultant for Hazardous Event Data Strengthening in Colombia

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) seeks a consultant to lead the consolidation and harmonisation of a database on hazardous events, impacts, damages and losses in Colombia. The assignment will focus on the 2026‑2027 El Niño event, improving systematic recording, analysis and reporting of disaster impacts.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, validate and integrate data from multiple Colombian entities responsible for disaster impact recording.
• Analyse the compiled information, identify gaps, methodological and institutional challenges, and propose improvements.
• Disaggregate data by gender, disability, geography, time, triggering mechanisms and cascading effects.
• Ensure data quality, completeness, traceability and interoperability with the DELTA Resilience system.
• Provide recommendations to strengthen national impact‑loss recording mechanisms and support reporting to the Sendai Framework Monitor.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in disaster risk, environmental science, public health, geography or a related field.
• Proven experience in data collection, management and analysis for disaster impacts or similar large‑scale events.
• Familiarity with gender‑ and disability‑sensitive data disaggregation and with international disaster reporting frameworks.
• Strong analytical, writing and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
