Data Engineer - International Banking Analytics

About the role

Scotiabank's Bogotá technology unit, ScotiaTech, is looking for a Data Engineer to support International Banking Analytics. The engineer designs and builds data pipelines and databases used by business intelligence and advanced analytics applications, while ensuring all work follows governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility and data-driven decision making.
• Design and develop hands-on with SQL, BigQuery, PySpark, Pandas, Parquet files, object storage and Airflow scheduling and orchestration.
• Write code and test it, and help the team optimize code execution.
• Work with analytics and business teams, and act as part of an agile team, championing consistent development practices and common patterns.
• Identify and recommend appropriate solutions, and consider the bank's risk appetite and risk culture in daily work.
• Ensure day-to-day business controls meet operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk obligations.

Required profile

• 3-6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or Technical Business Analyst.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or related field, or relevant experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• English at B2 level.

Required skills

• Cloud computing, data quality and governance.
• GCP, Databricks, SQL, Python and Spark.
• Relational databases such as Oracle, DB2 and Redshift.
• Big Data and cloud technologies (Hadoop, MinIO, Presto/Trino, Jupyter Hub, AirFlow).
• Data modelling, data lake and warehousing experience is a plus; API development experience is an asset.
