Design Manager (Data Centers)

About the role

AECOM Enterprise Capabilities is looking for an experienced Design Manager for data centers to be based in its Bogota, Colombia office. The role oversees a wide range of colocation and hyper-scale data center projects, from site due diligence and campus planning through conceptual and detailed design, construction documents and construction administration.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, onboard and offboard design resources in coordination with department leadership.
• Lead data center core and shell due diligence and design projects (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security and fire protection) from start to finish, keeping budget and schedule on track.
• Develop and enforce multi-site project and program management plans.
• Administer, oversee and perform peer reviews and quality checks in line with client and AECOM standards.
• Maintain responsibility for the project basis of design and localization process, and set up a process to detect, track and resolve scope changes, errors or inconsistencies.
• Host and attend meetings with clients and external stakeholders, and proactively communicate changes and project updates.
• Manage and grow the data center design team, and develop technical and financial proposals for new and add/move/change projects.
• Oversee preparation of project administration documents.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, plus eight years of relevant experience in design and/or project management, or equivalent experience and/or education.
• Active or recent leadership in data center and mission-critical trade organizations.
• Excellent written and spoken Spanish and English.
• Ability to work in dynamic, time-sensitive situations with minimal oversight.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• PMP certificate.
• Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Professional certification.
• Eight years in colocation and/or hyper-scale data center design management and engineering.
