Manager, AI & Data Governance - Data Stewardship

About the role

Mastercard's Enterprise Data Governance team is looking for a Manager, AI & Data Governance to enable data governance across the enterprise through a federated stewardship model. The role operationalizes data stewardship across business teams and data domains, drives issues from intake to documented decisions and helps mature the Enterprise Data Governance framework. It reports to a Director, AI & Data Governance.

Key responsibilities

• Triage and research issues submitted to Data Stewardship and drive them to a documented decision
• Analyze root causes across source systems, data warehouse logic and downstream reports
• Write and maintain business glossary terms, critical data elements, classification and transformation logic in the data catalog (Atlan)
• Keep an audit-ready intake tracker with status, dates, decisions and rationale, and prepare status updates and metrics for leadership
• Prepare agendas, pre-reads and analysis for stewardship meetings, write recaps with decisions, action items and owners, and follow up until items are closed
• Build and maintain playbooks, templates, procedures and job aids for the federated stewardship model
• Drive adoption of data and AI management practices through onboarding, training, communications and forums
• Implement and continuously improve the data governance framework

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree; a degree in Data Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field is a plus
• 6+ years of experience in data analysis, data governance, data management, data quality or a related field, preferably in a large enterprise, financial services or payments environment
• CEFR English C1 (Advanced) or equivalent
• Familiarity with federated governance models, data stewardship frameworks and master data management concepts
• Proven ability to influence without direct authority and to work autonomously

Required skills

• Strong SQL and Excel skills, including tracing data lineage across systems
• Strong understanding of metadata management, business glossaries and critical data elements
• Experience with data catalog platforms such as Atlan is a plus
• CDMP or similar certification is a plus
