Mechanical Engineer - Piping Systems

About the role

Hatch is seeking highly motivated Mechanical Engineers to join its Project Delivery Group (PDG) in Medellin, Colombia. The role covers mechanical and piping engineering, from design and deliverables management to site support and project coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure mechanical work complies with mandatory health and safety standards and client engineering standards
• Understand project scope, execution strategy, cost and schedule with the Engineering Manager
• Prepare engineering deliverables and time-based functions to control the engineering budget
• Lead equipment identification and selection, including sizing, layout, technical specifications and vendor reviews
• Lead piping system design: hydraulic analysis, P&ID development, material specifications, stress analysis and layout
• Develop the work plan for the project execution plan and maintain the scope of work documentation
• Manage and review engineering work packages so budgets and schedules are met, and approve technical deliverables
• Help prepare project procedures, coordinate with other disciplines, and carry out quality audits and technical documentation
• Take part in HAZOP reviews and resolve engineering issues throughout the project lifecycle
• Represent the Mechanical/Piping practice in project engineering coordination meetings and uphold ethical and safety practices

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
• Minimum 6 years of engineering experience
• Ability to manage and motivate individuals to meet quality, cost and schedule objectives
• Site experience in a technical role is preferred

Required skills

• Understanding of inter-discipline dependencies
• Knowledge of procurement, contracting and commissioning methodologies
• Sound knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the project
• Communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
