Mid Data Engineer

About the role

Global Technology Services, a growing IT services organization based in Medellín, Colombia, is looking for a Mid Data Engineer. The role works closely with Business Data Analysts to build and integrate data models that meet business needs, acting as a subject matter expert who turns data insights into usable models and helps departments get the most out of existing ones.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with other departments and Business Data Analysts to develop and integrate data models.
• Translate data insights and analysis into new data models and clarify questions about data requests.
• Maintain key business metrics and guide new data discovery processes to improve efficiency and department growth.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Economics) or equivalent professional experience.
• 2+ years of experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks).
• 2+ years of experience with SQL and Python focused on complex data transformation and automation.
• 2+ years designing modular data models (Dimensional Modeling, Data Vault or One Big Table).
• Proven expertise in end-to-end data pipeline design, ELT patterns and data quality frameworks.
• Strong understanding of data governance, including data lineage, cataloging and security compliance.

Nice to have

• Experience with BI platforms (Power BI, Tableau, Looker) and self-service analytics.
• Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect) and Git.

Required skills

• dbt, including macros, packages and CI/CD integration for data modeling.
• SQL and Python.
• Problem-solving and debugging, independent project ownership, and clear communication of complex engineering concepts.
