Principal Data Scientist - QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey

About the role

QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey is looking for a Principal Data Scientist to tackle complex data challenges, build advanced models and create solutions that optimise client performance across diverse industries. The role involves mentoring others, contributing to R&D, shaping the R&D roadmap and collaborating with data scientists, data engineers, machine learning engineers, designers and product managers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Develop data science solutions, write optimized code and apply advanced methods to influence client recommendations
• Create statistical models to solve operational challenges and mentor other data scientists
• Shape the QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey R&D roadmap and contribute to deep learning and machine learning research
• Collaborate with global teams and with leadership and client executives to lead the development and application of machine learning and AI solutions
• Work on interdisciplinary projects solving complex business challenges across a range of industries

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in computer science, machine learning, applied statistics, mathematics, engineering or artificial intelligence
• 10+ years of deep technical experience in distributed computing, machine learning and statistics-related work
• Proven application of advanced analytical, data science and statistical methods in the commercial world
• Thought leadership or people leadership experience (e.g. managing project teams or direct reports)
• Exceptional time management in a largely autonomous environment and willingness to travel
• Good presentation and communication skills, able to explain complex analytical concepts to non-experts
• Verbal and written English and Spanish, adapted to different audiences

Required skills

• Programming in Python, R, Scala and SQL
• Knowledge of distributed computing or NoSQL technologies is a plus
• Experience with technologies such as PySpark, the PyData stack, Airflow, Databricks, Kedro, Dask/RAPIDS, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP and Azure
