Project Manager - Alumina Refinery (Bayer Process)

About the role

GateSource HR is recruiting a Project Manager with experience in the Bayer Process to lead and optimise a large-scale alumina refining operation. The role sits in a continuous, heavy industrial environment requiring stable 24/7 production, strong process discipline and deep operational expertise in the Bayer Process. The successful candidate will manage thermal stability, energy efficiency and environmentally compliant residue handling.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily operations and performance management of an industrial alumina refinery using the Bayer Process.
• Ensure continuous, stable 24/7 production while keeping process control and thermal balance across the plant.
• Oversee digestion, clarification, precipitation and calcination circuits, focusing on throughput and product quality.
• Manage energy, steam and heat integration systems to improve efficiency and cut operating costs.
• Drive improvements in plant reliability, availability and operational discipline.
• Supervise Red Mud residue handling, storage and disposal in line with international environmental and safety standards.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across operations, maintenance, process engineering and HSE.
• Implement risk management, safety leadership and continuous improvement best practices.
• Act as the main operational interface with technical consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Direct operational responsibility for Bayer Process alumina refining in an industrial-scale plant.
• Proven experience managing continuous 24/7 plant operations, including thermal stability and process control.
• Demonstrated experience with Red Mud handling and residue management under international environmental compliance.
• Track record of leadership in heavy industrial production with a strong safety culture.
