Senior Accountant – Vacation Rental Finance

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join Howard Financial’s Vacation Rental practice. You will own the month‑end close, reconciliations and reporting for one or more property portfolios, acting as the key accounting point of contact for our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle month‑end close, including journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations for vacation‑rental accounts.
• Reconcile owner statements, trust/escrow accounts and property‑level revenue against data from PMS platforms such as Guesty, Streamline, Track or Hostaway.
• Review and mentor junior bookkeepers and accountants, ensuring accuracy before finalization.
• Prepare and analyse financial statements (P&L, balance sheet) at property and portfolio levels for internal and client review.
• Oversee AP/AR processes, coordinating vendor and owner payments using tools like Ramp or Bill.com.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies in booking, occupancy and revenue data flowing into the general ledger.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis for client portfolios.
• Maintain and improve documentation of accounting procedures specific to the vacation‑rental revenue cycle.
• Partner with the Controller/Sr. Controller and communicate proactively with client stakeholders.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 1–2 years at a senior‑accountant level.
• Hands‑on experience in vacation‑rental, short‑term rental or property‑management accounting; trust‑accounting exposure preferred.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and full month‑end close ownership.
• Professional written and spoken English for daily client‑facing communication.
