Senior Backend Engineer - Ruby on Rails

About the role

Devlane, a software development company active across Latin America and offering staff augmentation to clients worldwide, is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer. You will be the core backend specialist for a sustainable apparel and retail brand, working on e-commerce, retail and logistics systems within a Shopify-centric ecosystem during high-traffic periods.

Key responsibilities

• Take full ownership of backend architecture, internal tooling and critical third-party integrations.
• Work closely with a small, collaborative engineering team to ensure the reliability and performance of the systems.
• Architect robust API connections and troubleshoot and maintain platform stability.

Required profile

• 6+ years of solid, proven experience as a software engineer, focused on backend development.
• Strong analytical capacity and debugging skills, able to collaborate on solutions through shared communication channels.
• Strong technical fundamentals, with AI used only to speed up development, not as a dependency.

Required skills

• Ruby on Rails, or equivalent deep experience with Python frameworks such as Flask or Django.
• Hands-on experience with third-party API integrations and Shopify APIs.
• Standard databases such as MySQL.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS and JavaScript to maintain and adjust internal tools.
