Senior Controller – Real Estate & Development

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to own accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of US‑based clients while leading the internal accounting team. You will be the senior point of contact for clients, guiding them through results and anticipating needs.

Key responsibilities

• Manage multiple client engagements, overseeing month‑end close, financial statements and reporting to Howard’s standards.
• Lead, coach and review accountants and senior accountants, assigning work, prioritising tasks and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Review reconciliations, journal entries, workpapers and financial statements for accuracy and compliance.
• Apply US GAAP to complex transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
• Identify process gaps and implement improvements for faster, more consistent delivery.
• Handle escalations, make independent judgments and involve leadership when necessary.

Required profile

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a Controller or Senior Controller role.
• Proven ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously, preferably in public accounting or an outsourced‑accounting environment.
• Experience leading and developing accounting teams.
• Strong command of US GAAP, month‑end close and financial statement preparation.
• Excellent written and spoken English with confidence to lead client conversations.
• Sharp ownership mindset, detail‑oriented and able to meet commitments without supervision.
