Staff Software Developer IV (Java) – Remote Colombia

About the role

Caseware, a Canadian fintech company behind audit and accounting software used by hundreds of thousands of professionals worldwide, is hiring a Staff Software Developer IV. This is a fully remote position based in Colombia. The role suits a senior individual contributor who shapes architecture and standards, leads design reviews and RFCs, mentors engineers and takes ownership of key features and architectural improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Own key features and architectural improvements end-to-end, from design through build, using modern technology.
• Take initiative on complex challenges such as third-party extensibility and real-time multi-user synchronization.
• Define and evolve technical architecture and standards, and lead proof-of-concepts that inform the roadmap.
• Partner with QA, Product, Security and domain experts to ensure observability, reliability and quality.
• Establish engineering standards and best practices, and partner with DevOps and Security to improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies.
• Mentor senior and junior engineers through code reviews and design discussions, and act as a senior escalation point in production support.
• Champion responsible use of AI-assisted development tools, define guardrails, pilot new tools and measure their impact on velocity and quality.

Required profile

• At least 8 years of experience with core Java, as a subject matter expert.
• Experience with both monolithic applications and microservices.
• Proven experience designing and evolving shared platforms or infrastructure used by multiple teams, and taking ownership of architectural decisions.
• Experience delivering cloud-native systems on AWS, with an agile background.
• Nice to have: experience with Azure or Google Cloud, open-source contributions or a strong GitHub portfolio.

• Server-side Java, Docker and Kubernetes
• AWS (S3, Lambda, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, EKS, Secrets Manager, CloudFormation, Terraform)
• NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, and SQL Server / AWS RDS SQL Server
• New Relic and AWS CloudWatch; Jira, Visual Studio, GitHub
