Tax Manager

About the role

We are seeking a full-time Tax Manager to join our CPA‑led outsourced finance firm. This hands‑on role involves preparing and reviewing U.S. tax returns while building standards, processes, and a capacity model for a growing tax department.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review U.S. tax returns for partnerships, S‑corps, C‑corps, and individuals.
• Own the tax filing calendar and manage year‑round tax work, including quarterly estimates and tax planning.
• Build and maintain review standards, workpaper processes, and the TaxDome workflow system.
• Review returns prepared by others, provide clear technical feedback, and work directly with clients on tax questions.
• Partner with the bookkeeping team to improve handoffs and resolve issues.
• Develop a capacity plan, identify staffing needs, and hire and train tax preparers as the department expands.

Required profile

• 4–7 years of U.S. tax experience with at least one year of meaningful return review.
• Strong knowledge of small‑business taxation, including basis, distributions, reasonable compensation, and multi‑state considerations.
• Active U.S. PTIN or willingness to obtain one.
• Self‑directed, comfortable working fully remote and taking ownership.
• Proactive in identifying technical, process, and capacity issues.

Required skills

• TaxDome (tax system of record).
• ProConnect or Intuit Tax Advisor.
• QuickBooks Online.
• Experience with AI‑assisted tax tools (e.g., TaxGPT) is a plus.
