Transportation Planner Engineer

About the role

WSP is looking for a mid- to senior-level Civil Design Engineer to join its Municipal and Infrastructure team in Colombia. The engineer designs municipal and land development projects such as site and subdivision planning, municipal roads, residential developments, stormwater management and pipeline networks, for projects located in Canada.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate on projects from data collection and analysis to report preparation and graphic material preparation, in the field and in the office.
• Apply best practices and propose innovative solutions for multimodal transportation, public transit and traffic projects.
• Work with a multidisciplinary team of transportation/traffic engineers, planners, designers and landscape architects.
• Prepare and/or review technical memoranda and reports, and attend client, stakeholder and public meetings as required.
• Progressively take on project coordination and project management responsibilities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning.
• Engineering certification.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in transportation engineering and/or transportation planning.
• Experience preparing transportation planning proposals for private-sector clients and public-sector RFPs.
• Preparation of Transportation/Traffic Impact Assessments (TIAs) and experience in road safety analysis, including collision analysis and mitigation.
• Planning and design of active transportation, including the 5A / All Ages and Abilities approach.
• Conceptual and functional design of urban streets and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, including safety mitigation, active transportation integration, traffic signal timing adjustments and coordination with surface or shallow utilities.

Required skills

• Technical writing and presentation skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Desirable: traffic operations and site analysis experience.
• Desirable: transportation software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, VISTRO, Aimsun.
• Desirable: macroscopic trip demand modeling.
